Those who, like me, grew up in 1980s Soviet Union, will undoubtedly remember the Italo-pop vinyl. I think every household had one. It’s part of the childhood – trashy, catchy songs by Heather Parisi, Albano and Romina Power, Toto Cutugno and others.
Probably this is the reason why the old Italian disco divas still enjoy (relative) fame in Estonia. Last weekend I was in Haapsalu – lovely coastal town in Estonia, where I grew up. And there they were – Ricchi e Poveri. Live concert. We could not resist and went to listen to the last four songs – most famous ones. Somehow, despite the embarrasment of how bad the music is, these songs manage to take you back to your childhood. And it feels safe.
